Listed building consent drawings for Camden buildings
Camden decided 402 listed building consent applications to alter or extend in its four most recent quarterly returns, from a list of 1,971 entries. With only 13.3% of households in a house, some requests will concern one flat inside a larger building. Our chartered architectural technologists (MCIAT) draw the existing fabric and the change so the heritage officer can see exactly what the work touches.

02The brief
What we can and cannot say about Camden's test
Camden's heritage policy sits in the Camden Local Plan, adopted in 2017, and its design guidance is the Design CPG (Camden Planning Guidance). We hold no verified Camden rule that is specific to listed building consent, so we do not quote one.
National policy supplies the standard: Proposals affecting heritage assets need an assessment of significance (including setting) proportionate to the asset's importance. Substantial weight to the conservation of designated heritage assets is the weight the decision gives to conservation.

06The detail
1,971 list entries
Historic England records 57 entries at Grade I, 153 at Grade II* and 1,746 at Grade II. 35 entries sit on the Heritage at Risk Register, 16 registered parks and gardens reach into Camden and 1 scheduled monument does.
The council publishes 40 conservation areas and 21 Article 4 directions covering 21 areas. A listed building can stand inside a conservation area, which then adds its own controls to the listing.
Flats inside listed buildings
13.3% of Camden households live in a house and 29.7% own their home, so a consent request can be for one flat in a larger listed building, with a freeholder and neighbours affected. We survey the flat and the common parts it touches, and the drawings mark which parts of the listing the work reaches.
Whether your works need consent depends on the list entry and what changes, so we read the entry before quoting.
Decisions, fees and the offence
Camden granted 95% of the 402 applications decided over those four quarters. The volume is large enough to be a real record, but it describes past cases, not yours.
Consent carries no council fee, and the national table puts it at £0. Works without consent: up to 6 months' imprisonment or a fine on summary conviction; up to 2 years or a fine on indictment.
Roof, basement and the neighbourhood guides
A new roof storey is a planning question as well as a consent one: see mansard roof drawings in Camden. A lower floor is covered by basement conversion drawings in Camden.
Several Camden neighbourhoods have their own guides: Hampstead, Belsize Park and Primrose Hill. The wider route is on the listed building consent drawings hub.

Questions
Does a flat in a listed building need consent in Camden?
It can. Whether yours does depends on the list entry and the work, so send us the address and we check the entry before quoting.
Are garden structures covered by listing in Camden?
Garden buildings within the curtilage of a listed building are not permitted development. A garden room in a listed building's grounds therefore starts with the consent question.
Does Camden publish its own rule for listed building consent?
Heritage policy is in the Local Plan and design guidance in the Camden Planning Guidance documents. We hold no verified Camden rule to quote for consent itself, so we draw to the national test and the list entry.
